Group A

Xiaomei Ye, 1st place

Xiaomei Ye, 1st place

Xiaomei Ye currently from Las Cruces went undefeated
in her first-ever US tournament and took the $80 prize


Chinoz Rojas, 3rd place; Gustavo Gutierrez, 2nd place

Gustavo Gutierrez from Chihuahua Mexico took second and $70. He valiantly tried to win here in El Paso for the second time, but fell just short against the spirited defensive play of Xiaomei

Chinoz Rojas of our El Paso club played very well losing 3-1 to both the top finishers to take the $60 for 3rd place. He also defeated fellow El Paso club members Mark Flores and Ronald Meeks in tough 5 game battles


group B

Robert Compton, 1st place; ChaeSun Jimenez, 2nd place

Robert Compton, 1st place; ChaeSun Jimenez, 2nd place

It was all El Paso in Group B with Robert Compton($50) narrowly defeating ChaeSun Jimenez($40) 13-11 in the fifth to go undefeated


Group C

Rick Chartrand, 2nd place; Gaspar Cabanes, 1st place

Gaspar Cabanes of Santa Fe suffered a tough early loss to drop into Group C, but proved his level of play by dominating this group

Rick Chartrand of Los Alamos also felt the sting of an early upset to fall into Group C, but then battled back to finish 2nd


Group D

Jelmer DeManuel of Alamogordo had a solid showing for his 1st USA sanctioned tournament by finishing 1st in Group D

Pedro Rojas played hard to claim 2nd

U-3250 doubles

Shekhar Deshpande & Gaspar Cabanes, 1st place

In the double-elimination U-3250 doubles, Gaspar and Shekhar Deshpande of Santa Fe defeated 2nd place finishers Chinoz and Pedro Rojas(Group D 2nd) twice to prove they deserved the title and $40. Chinoz and Pedro narrowly defeated Mike Gopin and Luc Longpre and then also Ronald and Ralph Tanner to earn $30 for their efforts
